New channels reassigned Friday: Everything you need to know about rescanning your TV
Are certain channels starting to disappear on your TV?
It's time to rescan, antenna-users.
Friday marks the end of the repacking period, according to the Federal Communications Commission. Between Sept. 7 and Oct. 18, television stations have been assigned to new channels, meaning you may have lost access to some of your favorite programs.
But not to worry – those channels have not been lost for good. Here's what you need to know to get back in touch:
How do I rescan?
When your TV flashes the "weak" or "no signal" signs, it's time to rescan.
You can do this by picking up your remote and clicking the "menu" or "setup" button. Follow the instructions on your screen to instruct the TV to scan for all available channels.
It's the same process you went through when you first set up your TV.
I have cable or satellite TV. Do I need to worry about this?
No. This reminder is for antenna-users only.
Why do I need to rescan my TV?
"This channel is moving frequencies" is another message your screen may flash when it's time for a rescan.
Why? Because the change in frequency impacts how a channel is received over the air by your TV, according to the FCC.
In other words, you need to rescan in order for your TV to find the airwaves where those channels have been reassigned.
The change will open up airwaves for new high-speed wireless services.
Are my channels getting different numbers?
Nope.
Once you rescan, things will go back to normal – on your end. The change affects the station frequency, but you will still know your favorite programs by the channel number they have always been on.
Will I get new channels during the rescan?
Possibly.
It's possible that, depending on the last time you rescanned, new channels you didn't have before could be discovered during the rescan.
There could be channels on frequencies that your TV did not reach before, so enjoy those added bonuses.

How To Update Apps In iOS 13
With every iOS release, Apple makes some slight changes to the UI of some of its apps. This is natural as over time, they might come up with new ideas on how to make it better and easier to use. However, in one of the changes in iOS 13, and we imagine it will probably be sticking around for the next few iOS updates, Apple changed up the UI of the App Store a bit.
Previously, the iOS App Store had a separate tab at the bottom row in which users could check for app updates, but now that’s gone, so how do you update your apps? If you’re asking those questions, check out the guide below on how to update your iOS apps in iOS 13 (and beyond).
How To Update Your Apps In iOS 13

- Launch the App Store
- Tap your profile photo at the top right corner of the app’s screen
- Scroll down and you will find a list of apps on your phone that have been updated or are pending updates
- To check to see if you missed any updates, pull the screen down from the top to refresh the page
- Tap Update All to update new apps that have not been automatically updated and you should be all good to go
We should mention that turning on automatic app updates will in part solve this problem, but in case you need to update an app right now, you can follow the method laid out above to update it manually. However, if you have not turned on automatic app updates, here’s how to do it.
How To Turn On Automatic App Updates In iOS

- Launch Settings
- Scroll down and go to iTunes & App Store
- Under “Automatic Downloads”, make sure the toggle on “App Updates” is on (it should be green if it’s on)

How to do split screen on fortnite
How to do split screen on fortnite
Fortnite Split Screen is back: Here’s how to Split Screen on PS4 and Xbox One
FORTNITE Split Screen options are back and gamers can get back to sharing their Duos and Squad experiences on PS4 and Xbox One.
Epic Games has brought back Fortnite Split Screen on PS4 and Xbox One. Some might question the need for such an option in 2019.
Plenty of gamers rely on live service multiplayer to fill their Squads, and there aren’t many games that offer couch co-op.
But since Epic Games made it an option on consoles, it’s been among the top searched for terms on Google.
This spiked when Epic Games removed Split Screen options and then again when they brought them back.
So it’s clear that there is a real appetite to use Split Screen in Fortnite, even if it’s only for the novelty value.
A message from Epic Games explains: “Play Duos and Squads with a friend on the same PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
“This is an early release of Split Screen; we will continue to improve the feature. Please report bugs via the in-game feedback tool.”
Epic Games posted a notice saying they had disabled the feature back on December 12, and a few hours ago revealed that they re-enabled the option with a short message on Twitter.
HOW TO PLAY FORTNITE USING SPLIT SCREEN
Fortnite Split Screen is a cool new feature that most gamers will have grown up with as a standard option.
But since online multiplayer has become more and more important, split screen options have been disappearing from games.
This has sometimes proved controversial and has sparked campaigns to bring it back in titles like Halo.
For those that might have not encountered it before, it’s simply a way for two friends to play a game together using the same screen and console.
Two controllers are required and the game itself has to support the feature of sharing a screen between two players.
And this feature has now become available in Fortnite Battle Royale, albeit, not in all versions.
For now, Fortnite Battle Royale can only be played in Split Screen mode on PS4 and Xbox One.
There has been no mention of Epic Games expanding this support to other platforms in the future.
But that doesn’t mean we will never see it arrive on something like the Nintendo Switch.
To use Split Screen Mode in Fortnite, gamers will need to be running the game on PS4 or Xbox One and have two controllers.
They will also need to select Duos or Squads, as Split Screen Mode doesn’t allow gamers to share a screen in Solo Mode.
After choosing one of these options, you will need to connect the second controller and select to log the second player in by holding down a button on their gamepad.
As an example, the option will be found on the bottom line of the screen on PS4, prompting players to hold the X button.
After the second player joins the lobby, you can switch control of the menu screen between the two accounts.
This will allow for player 2 to change their skins, view replays and check out the stats screen.
For now, Fortnite Split Screen remains in beta, meaning it is not supported in Creative Mode or LTMs.
There has also been no mention of further support being extended to Fortnite Save the World, at this time.

How to Turn Off Your AirPods
Save the batteries on wireless Apple earphones
The answer, believe it or not, is no: There is no way to turn off AirPods or their charging case.
You Can't Turn Off AirPods or Their Charging Case
We know. You're not alone. Lots of people wonder whether you can turn AirPods off to save battery life or just prevent them from working when you don't want to use them.
Apple created the AirPods so that they'd always be ready. All you have to do is open the case, pull the AirPods out, put them in your ears, and they start working. No need for on/off buttons, no need to tap a bunch of onscreen buttons to connect to your device.
Because of this, Apple did not create a way to turn off your AirPods. If you could turn them off, you'd have to remember if you'd turned them on before using them or you might put them in your ears only to find out they were off.
So, Apple did not create a way — either in hardware or software — to turn off or power down the AirPods themselves or their charging case.
Tip -The button on the AirPods charging case in not an on/off button, even though it seems like it might be. Instead, that's the button that you press to set up AirPods, or to reset them. Only press it if you're trying to do one of those things.
There are, however, a few tips for stopping AirPods from playing audio and extending their battery life.
Put AirPods in Charging Case To Stop Audio and Save Battery Life
:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():format(webp)/using-apple-airpods-58f4e95d5f9b582c4df92229.jpg)
So, you can't turn AirPods off in the sense of powering them down to stop them from working or to save battery life. However, Apple has built some features into the AirPods that let you deal with these situations.
HOW TO CONSERVE AIRPODS BATTERY LIFE
Most people want to turn off their AirPods to save battery life. Since you can't turn them off, the best way to conserve battery is to place your AirPods back in their charging case when you're not using them. According to Apple, when the AirPods are in the charging case they "shut down" and don't use battery. In fact, they'll recharge themselves with any power that's stored in the case's battery.
Even though Apple says AirPods "shut down" when in their case, we understand that to mean "stop working" not "turn off."
USE ONE AIRPOD AT A TIME TO CONSERVE BATTERY LIFE
If battery life is your main concern, squeeze more life out of your AirPods by using one at a time and keeping the one you're not using fully powered in the charging case. This is only really good if you're making calls (who wants to listen to music in only one ear?), but it can help in that situation.
Tip -If you want to turn off your AirPods due to concern about battery health, don't worry. Even if your AirPods are in the case, they're not necessarily charging 100% of the time. Once your AirPod batteries are fully charged, the case stops sending power to them.
HOW TO PREVENT AIRPODS FROM WORKING WHEN NOT IN YOUR EARS
The other reason you may want to turn off your AirPods is stop them from playing music when they're not in your ears. Luckily, there's nothing you need to do here. AirPods include an Automatic Ear-Detection setting that helps them know when they're in your ears. If they are, they play audio. But take them out, and the audio automatically pauses. There's no concern about them playing tunes while sitting in your pocket.
Tip -If you dig deep enough into the AirPods settings on iOS devices or Macs, you'll find an option called Off (it's in Settings > Bluetooth > AirPods > Double-Tap on AirPod). That doesn't turn the AirPods off. Rather, that setting controls what happens when you double tap one of your AirPods. If you select it, you're turning off that feature so that nothing happens when you tap the AirPods. You're not turning off the AirPods themselves.

How to turn off and restart your iPhone X
Have you tried turning it off and then on again?
You shouldn’t have to turn off your iPhone very often. If you’re not going to use it for a few hours, it’s not worth the hassle (and minuscule battery life savings) to shut it down.
But, if you know you’re not going to use your phone for a couple days, or on a very long international flight, and you want to save every last ounce of battery life, shutting it down can be an effective option.
Also, if you suspect some bug has made your phone unresponsive or slow, the first troubleshooting step should be that old IT standby: turn it off and on again.
You used to be able to force a restart on iPhone by holding down the side and Home button for awhile—10 seconds or so. With no Home button, you have to force a reset a little differently on iPhone X.
To shut down the iPhone X, quickly press and release the Volume Up button, then the Volume Down button, then press and hold the Side button. Your phone will show a “slide to power off” bar at the top. Slide that, and it will turn off your phone.
